# Editor layout

Find the design tools, inspectors, modeling controls, and downloads.

The design editor is a map with tools around its edges. Select an object to inspect it, or clear the selection to work with the design-wide controls.

## Top left

The design name and navigation are at the top left. Use the layers button to show or hide the [Layers panel](https://docs.solesca.com/editor/layers/). Existing v1 designs also provide a version control; see [Coming from v1](https://docs.solesca.com/start/coming-from-v1/).

## Top center

The toolbar includes:

- **Go to location** for address and coordinate search.
- **Select** for selecting objects.
- **Field** for drawing array boundaries.
- Obstruction tools for shapes, rectangles, circles, lines, and trees.
- Site-infrastructure tools, including roads and parcels.
- **Measure** for distances.
- **Upload** for site files.
- **Comment** for map discussions.
- **Stringing**, where available, for physical stringing controls.
- The **Design mode** and **Engineering mode** switch.
- The terrain control.
- **Model** and its model selector.

Availability depends on your seat, the selected mode, and whether the design is editable. A disabled control explains what is needed.

## Top right

**Download** opens the [download menu](https://docs.solesca.com/downloads/download-menu/). **Concierge** opens the support drawer.

## Layers and inspectors

The **Layers** panel is on the left. The inspector is on the right and changes with your selection: fields, inverter groups, obstructions, images, terrain, and engineering equipment have different controls.

Use the field inspector for equipment and racking. Use the design-wide controls for refinement and other settings affecting the design.

## Map controls

**Map layers** is at the bottom left. It controls 3D or 2D imagery, overlays, and imports.

The view cube changes the camera direction. The lens controls switch between **Ortho** and **Persp** and provide zoom buttons. See [Map, search, and views](https://docs.solesca.com/editor/map/).

## Results

**Model** opens the modeling results or progress panel. It can be reopened after closing it. See [Model energy](https://docs.solesca.com/editor/simulate/).

For keyboard alternatives, see [Keyboard shortcuts](https://docs.solesca.com/editor/shortcuts/).
